From learning to caring to friendship

Operation Amigos

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes,
but in having new eyes.

Marcel Proust

For centuries the pineapple has been a symbol of friendship and hospitality for people in the West Indies and the Americas. A pineapple at the entrance to a home or a village means that all are welcome there. It represents an openness and willingness to form bonds and work together. It’s a symbol of celebration and a signal of hospitality.

We feel like the pineapple is a good representation of what Operation Amigos is to us: a place where we gather, where we celebrate humans, where we try to work together and understand each other. Learning about others can lead to caring and caring leads to friendship. And encouraging friendship among people who are different from each other is our end goal. Who says humans can’t change the world? Friendship can can bridge all sorts of barriers. Who knows who your next best friend could be, and what kinds of changes YOU can make in the world?
